Every day, we go to work hoping to do two things: share great coffees, teas, wines and ciders with our friends and customers and leave the world a little better place.

In 1911, an immigrant started a coffee roaster as the city of Detroit was booming. From small roaster on Gratiot and McDougall, King Coffee (then the Standard Coffee Company) offered some of the best coffees in the area.

In 1982, James Spear (Five O’clock Brands President /CEO, lead barista and chief aeration officer) sold his first Nuova Simonelli “Model Beach” espresso machine in the Metro Detroit marketplace. From his first cup of properly made espresso, James was drawn into the allure and authenticity of Italian Culture.

A few years later the Seattle coffee wave hit the USA, and King Coffee & Tea Service had all of the support in place to make that culture a reality in Michigan and other mid-western states.

Our mission since has been to inspire our customers to service the best coffees, teas, wines and ciders, one person, one cup, and glass  at a time with many of our brands.
